Immigration Rules - Contract Seamen
EDM number 23 in 1994-95, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 16/11/1994.
That this House, whilst approving the newly introduced regulations which require that foreign seafarers working on vessels plying solely within United Kingdom waters may be admitted to the United Kingdom only as contract seafarers and if in possession of a work permit, urges Her Majesty's Government to seek to extend these regulations to cover non-nationals of the European Union serving on vessels trading solely between ports within the European Union and further to ensure that any vessel trading regularly between ports in the European Union is crewed at least to United Kingdom standards in terms of seaworthiness and the training and certification of their crews.
