Fini At Chatham House

That this House condemns the invitation extended by the Royal Institute of International Affairs to Gianfranco Fini, leader of the fascist MSI-Alleanza Nazionale movement in Italy, to speak to Chatham House on 15th February 1995 in the anniversary year of the destruction of European fascism and its cruelties; deplores the decision of the RIIA to provide a platform for a man who has described Mussolini as 'the greatest statesman of the 20th century' and whose party is associated with the excesses of irredentism, anti-semitism and fascist ceremonialism; and, in view of the calls to stage public demonstrations at Chatham House to protest against the propaganda for fascist values from Sig. Fini, urges the Home Secretary to consider whether Sig. Fini's presence is likely to lead to breaches of the peace and that therefore he should be informed by the British Embassy in Rome that he is not welcome to come to Britain to advance the cause of Italian and pan-European right-wing extremism.
