Zoo Directives

EDM number 498 in 1994-95, proposed by John Gunnell on 26/01/1995.

That this House welcomes the draft declaration of the international conference held in London in January 1995 which issued a declaration calling on the Council of Ministers to undertake the earliest possible approval, ratification and implementation of the draft Zoo Directive in order to enhance the conservation and welfare of captive wild animals in zoos; and calls on the Government to use its influence both to achieve this objective and also to encourage the conscientious application of the provisions of the directive and the subsequent national legislation required by the directive in all the member states of the European Union.
