Twentieth Anniversary Of The Equal Opportunities Commission;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 324A1 in 1995-96, proposed by Ann Winterton on 23/01/1996.

leave out from `House' to end and insert `believes that all citizens should be treated equally under the law regardless of their gender, and welcomes the valuable contribution which women make to public and commercial life, as well as in being the main providers of care for children; notes with concern that the Equal Opportunities Commission employs 140 women, but only 30 men, representing 82.4 per cent. and 17.6 per cent. respectively of its workforce; further observes that of the eleven commissioners eight are women and just three are men; believes that such a deplorable imbalance in the gender profile of the employees and commissioners is totally unacceptable and inconsistent with a body purporting to have an equal opportunities policy, and which is set to receive Grant in Aid of over ú6 million in the next financial year; and urges the Home Secretary to bring forward proposals for the abolition of this anachronistic and divisive organisation.'.

This is a ammendment to 324.
