Site For The Millennium Exhibition

EDM number 537 in 1995-96, proposed by Richard Burden on 28/02/1996.

That this House notes the anger that will be felt in the Midlands and elsewhere at the pro-London bias of the Millennium Commission displayed in the way the NEC has been ruled out from further consideration as the site for the Millennium exhibition; notes the confused and contradictory statements made by the Secretary of State for National Heritage in the House of Commons on 28th February; and is concerned that the rules of the bidding contest were altered mid stream to reject the site which was favoured by the Commission's chosen design consultants, Imagination, which was financially sound a nd which had a clear operator, in favour of a bid without a definite operator and which is financially uncertain.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
