Wei Jingsheng

That this House condemns the decision by the Chinese government to place on trial Mr Wei Jingsheng, the leading Chinese writer and human rights activist; places on record its admiration for the long campaign for democratic rights undertaken by Mr Wei since he launched the Democracy Wall movement in 1979; and considers that any show trial in which Mr Wei will face a possible death or long prison sentence will do great damage to friendly relations with Beijing.
