Firework Safety (Bangers)
EDM number 116 in 1996-97, proposed by Richard Burden on 31/10/1996.
That this House believes that the celebration of 5th November should be an enjoyable and safe evening; believes that responsibly used and appropriate fireworks can provide a great deal of visual pleasure; notes that bangers are easy to abuse, have no visual appeal, are a nuisance to people and frighten animals; notes that with 316 injuries last year alone there are more accidents involving bangers than any other single type of firework; and therefore believes that bangers should be classified as unsuitable for sale to the general public.
