Belt Up School Kids Campaign

EDM number 483 in 1996-97, proposed by Joan Walley on 04/02/1997.

That this House congratulates the success of the BUSK campaign led by Pat Harris and their call for schoolchildren to be seat belted into school transport; and believes that for the forthcoming legislation to be effective a number of measures must be introduced, including the need for seat belt installers to be licensed and measures to regulate seat belt retro-fitting, without which untested specifications would be applied in both coaches and minibuses throughout the United Kingdom; and supports the coach pull test on 5th February 1997 planned to visibly demonstrate how the public and children could be at risk under the proposed legislation.
