Northern Ireland Forum

EDM number 95 in 1996-97, proposed by Harry Barnes on 29/10/1996.

That this House supports the Northern Ireland Forum in passing resolutions, without dissent, in opposition to (1) the introduction into Northern Ireland of the jobseekers allowance, (2) the privatisation of the Northern Ireland Water Executive, (3) the transfer of Northern Ireland's public sector housing provision to a mixed funding housing project before the next General Election and (4) the Government's failure to safeguard the beef industry in Northern Ireland; and further praises its support, without dissent for 'effective legislation to outlaw the discrimination against people with disabilities' and the setting up of a body with powers to 'to enforce such legislation and to champion the rights of people with disabilities'.
