Canbury Gardens, Kingston Upon Thames

EDM number 1136 in 1997-98, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 24/03/1998.

That this House is appalled at the eviction of protesters from trees in Canbury Gardens, Kingston-upon-Thames by the Sheriff and security staff on order from the Liberal Democrat controlled borough council; believes the cost of this operation, estimated at ú200,000 per day, to be a gross waste of public money; further deplores the felling of 48 mature healthy trees to enhance the riverside views of a luxury development by Fairclough Properties; and finally calls upon the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions to institute an independent inquiry into all the circumstances surrounding the granting of planning permission and damage to public open space.

This motion has been signed by a total of 3 MPs.
