Colchester And Prosperity

EDM number 1315 in 1997-98, proposed by Bob Russell on 13/05/1998.

That this House notes that Colchester has been judged in an independent survey to be the most prosperous town in Essex and the eastern counties, and the third in the country; congratulates Colchester Borough Council for its policies over the past 10 years which have resulted in this accolade; welcomes the financial assistance of the present and previous governments to road safety and environmental works in the High Street which have led to an investment of ú17 million in town centre retail developments in the past year by local and national concerns; acknowledges the financial contribution of the previous Government towards the installation of closed circuit television security cameras; calls on the present Government to at least match this sum so that the scheme can be extended; and wishes further success for the town in the years ahead.
