Conduct Of The Honourable Member For Gordon

EDM number 1334 in 1997-98, proposed by Tim Loughton on 18/05/1998.

That this House notes and deplores the attendance at the Committee Stage of the Finance (No. 2) Bill of the Liberal Democrat Chief Treasury Spokesman, the honourable Member for Gordon, which has amounted to only four minutes thus far; notes that in the Committee stages of the Finance Bill 1997, in his very limited attendances, he contributed just 10 lines in the Official Report out of approximately 27,000 lines; further notes that when asked on the floor of the House on 27th April, if he intended to improve upon his participation record in the last Finance Bill Standing Committee he amazingly and erroneously replied, 'I was not a member of the Finance Bill Committee last year,'; and therefore calls upon the honourable Member for Gordon and the Liberal Democrat Party to apply themselves properly to the important work in the Committee stages of the 1998 Finance Bill if they wish to be considered as participants in the legislative process.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
