Train Services In Greater Manchester

EDM number 1618 in 1997-98, proposed by Graham Stringer on 28/07/1998.

That this House deplores the fact that since First Group Plc acquired North Western Trains from Western Holding Plc its unnecessary and savage cuts, including the closure of booking offices in breach of the franchise agreement, have led to a massive deterioration in the service, leading to 50 cancellations a day and a loss of punctuality of two thirds; and therefore calls on the Franchise Director and the Secretary of State to take immediate action to rectify this unnacceptable situation and to further support the action of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority in attempting to extract improvements from First Group Plc.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
