Conduct Of The Prime Minister

EDM number 1773 in 1997-98, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 18/11/1998.

That this House invites the Prime Minister to offer his regret as well as recognition that the consultation document Supporting Families mistakenly lists the Labour Party Manifesto 1997 as a related government publication; notes that if Ministers had read their own document as far as page 56, they would have seen the error and should have corrected it; asks the Prime Minister to authorise the Cabinet Secretary to back every civil servant who notices a Minister confusing Labour interest with proper government; and that this House affirms the virtue of the independent Civil Service.
