Funding Of Nursery Education

EDM number 208 in 1997-98, proposed by Stephen Hepburn on 07/07/1997.

That this House notes the reports that education authorities in the North of England have lost millions of pounds because of the previous government's wasteful and bureaucratic nursery vouchers scheme; further notes that, had such waste been caused by local councillors, rather than forced upon them by an out of touch and dogmatic Tory government, those councillors would have been liable to surcharge for those losses; and calls upon the Conservative Party to apologise to the council tax payers of the North and to offer to pay the losses caused by their policies, namely ú330,000 to the tay payers of Newcastle, ú200,000 to Sunderland, ú142,000 to Stockton, ú140,000 to South Tyneside, ú50,000 to North Tyneside and ú30,000 both to Gateshead and Northumberland.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
