Funding For The Millenium Dome And Other Millenium Projects

EDM number 273 in 1997-98, proposed by Alex Salmond on 17/07/1997.

That this House condemns the Government for its reported decision to divert money from prestigious projects to celebrate the millennium in Scotland, Wales and the North of England while providing an additional ú250 million for the Minister without Portfolio's Millennium Dome in Greenwich; notes that casualties in Scotland may include a science centre planned for the former Glasgow Garden Festival site; and calls on the Government to call a halt to the increasingly expensive and irrelevant Greenwich Project and to reinvest resources in meaningful projects across the United Kingdom which will mark the millennium in a more appropriate manner.
