Christian Millennium Celebration

EDM number 279 in 1997-98, proposed by Ann Winterton on 22/07/1997.

That this House acknowledges the enormous debt owed by the World to Christ and Christianity throughout the last 2,000 years; accepts that much of the known world from schools, hospitals, universities, literature and music to churches and many instruments of state, would be unrecognisable without His influence, inspiration and wisdom; believes that due reverence and acknowledgement should be given to Christ and His teachings in the midst of the celebrations for His 2,000th anniversary; and invites Her Majesty's Government to provide opportunities for the people of his Christian nation prayerfully to give thanks and praise and to contemplate with humility the scale of the challenges which lie ahead in creating a genuine and living Christian World.
