Green Belt In Hertfordshire

EDM number 414 in 1997-98, proposed by Peter Lilley on 10/11/1997.

That this House believes that the Green Belt should be sacrosanct; condemns Hertfordshire's Labour/Liberal DemocratCounty Council for steamrollering through by one vote its plan to build 10,000 houses on Green Belt land to the west of Stevenage; believes that such a serious issue should have been considered and voted upon by the whole council; deplores the shoddy manoeuvre of leaving the decision to a small committee where it was passed with the active support of only 14 of the county council's 77 members; notes that the only opposition to this measure has come from the Conservative group who are unanimously opposed to it; and calls upon the Secretary of State to overturn this undemocratic and unjustified decision.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
