Water Regulations
EDM number 502 in 1997-98, proposed by Joan Walley on 26/11/1997.
That this House supports the Government's aim of water conservation; notes the concerns of sanitary manufacturers in respect of the Water Regulations Advisory Committee's proposal to allow the use of WC's with valves and the serious impact this will have on the industry; is not convinced that this will result in improved water efficiency, higher hygiene standards and lower costs for consumers; is concerned about the impact of the new regulations on employment, the balance of trade and the viability of British companies; and believes further discussions with UK sanitaryware manufacturers are needed in respect of the content of the impending water regulations.
