Briefer Divisions

EDM number 71 in 1997-98, proposed by Paul Flynn on 04/06/1997.

That this House believes that S.O. No.40 (Division unnecessarily claimed) which allows divisions to be determined by honourable Members standing in their places should be used as an alternative to the division lobbies when the outcome of votes by overwhelming majorities is predictable; and is convinced that in the unprecedented balance of political loyalty in the present parliament this would be a more efficient use of honourable Members' time while allowing votes on major issues to be decided and recorded in the division lobbies.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
