Health Information

EDM number 771 in 1997-98, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 11/02/1998.

That this House recognises the value of the professional work of the Office for National Statistics and accepts its role as a Government statistical service reporting to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and its ability to answer questions from honourable Members, but wishes the Secretary of State for Health to recognise that he and his Department have an interest in helping to reduce the numbers of people who find themselves seeking terminations under the Abortion Act 1967; and invites the Health Secretary to ascertain and to publish at least quarterly the national and regional numbers of terminations rather than transferring Questions on this subject to the Treasury for them to answer by passing responsibility to the Head of the Government Statistical Service to give two year old information for England and Wales alone.
