Premier League Referees

EDM number 813 in 1997-98, proposed by Eric Illsley on 19/02/1998.

That this House views with incredulity the failure of the referee to award a penalty kick to Barnsley FC during their FA Cup tie with Manchester United on 15th February, which is the latest in a long list of inexplicable decisions made by Premier League referees who are blighting Premiership football and leaving themselves open to accusations of bias towards established Premier League clubs; calls upon the Football Association and the Premier League to introduce improvements to the system of refereeing and investigate the use of electronic technology to assist referees; and further calls for the abandonment of the separate list of Premier League referees and a return to the single list of both Premiership and League referees.
