LABOUR'S SCOTTISH CONFERENCE

EDM number 964 in 1997-98, proposed by Alex Salmond on 10/03/1998.

That this House notes events at Labour's Scottish Conference in Perth where the leadership lost three votes - on social security, Trident nuclear weapons, and transport - and used procedural devices, including the re-running of a ballot and refusing a card vote, in order to avoid losing three more, on the Private Finance Initiative, tuition fees and local authority funding; and agrees with the Conference that the Labour leadership's policy of cutting lone-parent benefits is economically inept, morally repugnant, and spiritually bereft.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
