Traffic Congestion In Essex

EDM number 1156 in 1999-00, proposed by Teddy Taylor on 16/11/2000.

That this House welcomes the Highways Agency's 10 year National Roads Strategy; notes Lord Whitty's pledge that the Government is committed to reducing congestion and to a wider choice of safer, better integrated and more reliable travel; believes that the ú22.3 billion earmarked under the strategy over the next 10 years should bring benefits to the nation's transport infrastructure; but recognised the significant representations from the South East Essex Society of Chartered Accountants on the need to give more priority to the transport infrastructure in the Thames Gateway which is currently insufficient to serve the one million people living in this area; and calls upon the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions to give more priority to this issue.
