Asda And Lancashire Farmers

EDM number 337 in 1999-00, proposed by Colin Pickthall on 01/02/2000.

That this House deplores the decision of ASDA effectively to dump the Lancashire area as a supplier of vegetables, removing at a stroke 50 to 70 per cent. of many Lancashire farmers' revenue; equally deplores the nature of the decision, made without warning or discussion with the farmers; and expresses its deep concern that this episode might well presage a more brutal and exploitative approach towards British farmers and growers introduced into the United Kingdom from the USA by Walmart.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
