Plaid Cymru And The Miners
EDM number 43 in 1999-00, proposed by Don Touhig on 17/11/1999.
That this House deplores the insensitive comments of the Leader of Plaid Cymru, the Right honourable Member for Caernarfon, which apparently belittled the struggle of miners and mining communities of South Wales; and notes that the remarks coming as they do at a time when Labour honourable Members working with the National Union of Mineworkers have been campaigning for justice for miners whose health has been ruined by service in the pits, shows that Plaid Cymru is out of touch with the hopes and aspirations of valley communities which were laid waste during the years of Tory governments as mining and almost all manufacturing industries were destroyed.
This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
