London Welsh Rugby Football Club

EDM number 669 in 1999-00, proposed by Geraint Davies on 19/04/2000.

That this House supports London Welsh Rugby Football Club's application to join the Welsh-Scottish League; notes the precedent of Glasgow Caledonians and Edinburgh Rievers joining the Welsh Premier Division last year; notes that London Welsh are one of the top 16 club sides in England; recognises that the club runs six other successful senior sides, together with a further 12 sides from colts to under 7s and a strong women's squad; believes their playing in the Welsh-Scottish League would raise the profile of Welsh rugby in England, generate significant additional revenue and sponsorship opportunities, and help London Welsh to continue to raise the standard of rugby at Old Deer Park; and believes that the application by London Welsh is an exciting opportunity to bring into Welsh rugby a heavyweight Welsh rugby club.
