Transport In Rural Wyre

EDM number 673 in 1999-00, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 02/05/2000.

That this House condemns the Conservative-supported idea to shift traffic congestion from the outskirts of Preston to the delightful rural area around Claughton-in-Wyre, with the opening of an unwanted and unnecessary motorway junction; instead supports the proposal in the North West Regional Transport Strategy for a new railway station for Gastar; commends the efforts of Lancashire County Council and the Moss Roads Action Group to reconstruct the roads that rural communities do need; applauds this Government for backing the Gastar Super 8 minibus scheme to bring regular, accessible public transport to many Wyre villages; and recognises that a sustainable, integrated transport strategy will support Wyre rural communities while a motorway junction would wreck them.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
