Jobs And Economic Prosperity In Wales
EDM number 971 in 1999-00, proposed by Jackie Lawrence on 12/07/2000.
That this House applauds the economic and employment benefits being enjoyed by Wales as a result of the success of Government policies; notes that the problems of the past are being remedied by the continuing fall in unemployment now standing at a 20-year low; notes that this change is bringing benefits to the young unemployed where the number of unemployed has fallen by 6,270 since 1997, the long-term unemployed where the number has fallen by 7,107 since 1997, and the overall unemployed where the number has fallen by a dramatic 25,982 since 1997; also takes particular satisfaction in the promise for future Welsh prosperity given by the remarkable figures of inward investment achieved under this Government with Wales receiving a more than proportionate share of eight per cent. of the UK total and also appreciates that indigenous Welsh business is about to receive a boost from the Objective 1 money which has been secured for Wales by a Labour Government.
This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
