Demonstrations By Scottish Fishermen

EDM number 437 in 2000-01, proposed by Anne Begg on 13/03/2001.

That this House welcomes the announcement by the Scottish Executive to make ú27 million available to Scottish fishermen as part of a decommissioning scheme, but condemns the destruction of fishing vessel log books and, in particular, the burning of effigies of the Scottish Fisheries Minister Rhona Brankin at demonstrations in Peterhead and Hopeman on 12th March; notes that the press release advertising these demonstrations was issued by the Scottish National Party; and calls on the honourable Member for Banff and Buchan and the honourable Member for Moray, as the local honourable Members, to condemn these actions and to apologise for their political party's role in promoting such civil disorder.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
