Paedophile Register And Sentencing
EDM number 1409 in 2001-02, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 11/06/2002.
That this House calls on the Government to allow members of the public full access to the National Paedophile register; notes that people have the right to know if there is a potential threat to children in their neighbourhood; recognises that convicted paedophiles are given much too lenient jail sentences; further notes that what they put children through is paramount to torture and worse and that this kind of abuse can have a lasting psychological and emotional effect; hopes that the Government will consider legislation to ensure that anyone convicted of paedophilia will get a long custodial sentence so that the punishment properly fits the terrible crime that these people commit; and further calls on the Home Secretary to provide more resources and manpower to the Police Special Paedophile Unit to ensure they can expand their efforts to eradicate child pornography on the internet.
