Member For Leicester West And Aberdeen Post Offices;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 1725A1 in 2003-04, proposed by Frank Doran on 27/10/2004.

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes the strong support from the honourable Member for Leicester West for the Post Office network reorganisation and the new investment which will be made in Aberdeen post offices; deplores the failure of Liberal Democrat councillors after 76 weeks in power to allow Aberdeen citizens to use Aberdeen post offices to pay for council services like rent, business rates, home help charges or waste management charges; further notes that all of these payments can be made for free in Edinburgh because of the support Edinburgh's Labour administration gives to Edinburgh post offices; notes also that the present LibDem Council leader supported the withdrawal of payment of these services at a meeting of the council's Finance Sub-Committee on 10th May 1996; further notes that no discussions have been held with the Post Office since August and the council has made no decisions on increasing the use of post offices; and further notes that the LibDem DTI spokesperson, the honourable Member for Twickenham, with the honourable Member for Weston-Super-Mare and Nick Clegg MEP, produced the Liberal Democrat policy document last year proposing the privatisation of the Post Office as the Dutch have done, which would have a most serious effect on the Post Office network in Aberdeen.

This is a ammendment to 1725.
