MAYOR OF LONDON'S YOUTH OFFER
EDM number 1047 in 2007-08, proposed by Karen Buck on 26/02/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Anti-social behaviour and Crime.
That this House believes it is vital that every young Londoner is given the chance to fulfil their potential; welcomes the Mayor of London's Youth Offer which will help provide young people with more safe places to go and things to do outside of school hours, to support them and help them back into education or training and generally to reduce the chances of them being involved in crime or anti-social behaviour; notes that the Mayor will be spending an additional £20 million on London's youth services on top of the £59 million already committed by the Government; further notes that one of the key purposes of the funding is to provide activities that young people themselves decide they want to do; highlights that the money is particularly aimed at the most deprived young Londoners who are most likely to be victims of crime or get involved in anti-social behaviour or street gangs; and believes that all young Londoners should be provided with the opportunities to develop new skills, raise their aspirations and contribute to the continued prosperity of the city.
