Teachers At Shrewsbury Sixth Form College And Proposals For Co-Location

EDM number 1386 in 2007-08, proposed by Daniel Kawczynski on 22/04/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Further education, Industrial relations and Teachers.

That this House condemns the senior management of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College for seeking to prevent the teaching staff of that institution from engaging in any activity or meetings critical of the proposal to co-locate Shrewsbury Sixth Form College with Shrewsbury College of Art and Technology; believes that this proposal should stand or fall on its merits and not succeed on the basis of the suppression of free and open discussion informed by those most intimately acquainted with the facts of the case; and urges the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families to take steps to ensure that the teaching staff of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College can participate in public discussions of the college's future without intimidation or fear of reprisals from their employer.
