Carmarthenshire County Council Job Losses

EDM number 154 in 2010-12, proposed by Jonathan Edwards on 07/06/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Local government, Public expenditure and Unemployment.

That this House notes that Carmarthenshire County Council has written to all employees warning that 500 jobs could be lost as a consequence of budget reduction targets over the next few years; further notes that these potential job losses were announced based on the likely financial climate faced by Welsh local authorities based on the projections of the previous UK Government; acknowledges that the additional £187 million of cuts in the Welsh government budget for this year announced by the new UK Government will increase the pressure for Welsh public bodies to reduce their staffing liabilities; and calls on public bodies who now inevitably have to cut jobs and wages to do so on a holistic basis rather than targeting low paid public sector workers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
