Purple Flag Award

EDM number 3009 in 2010-12, proposed by Mark Williams on 25/04/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Cultural heritage and Tourism.

That this House congratulates Aberystwyth on becoming the first town in Wales to win the coveted Purple Flag Award, which is a new accreditation scheme partly sponsored by the Home Office that rewards good management of town and city centres at night; commends the hard work of all of those people in the Aberystwyth area who have worked so hard to succeed in being able to offer those visiting Aberystwyth a better visit; notes that the 5pm to 5am night time economy is worth 66 billion nationwide; further notes the wide range of factors considered by judges when accrediting this award from the quality of attractions and services to policing, safety and CCTV provision, transport and parking, and the culture, identity and diversity of the area; and calls on other communities to follow the example of Aberystwyth in order that they may also receive this accolade.
