Office Of The Information Commissioner

EDM number 980 in 2010-12, proposed by Robert Halfon on 09/11/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Internet and cybercrime and Standards.

That this House notes that following the recent queries into the Information Commissioner's effectiveness, it has emerged that the Information Commissioner's Office spent over 13 million on marketing and public relations in the last 10 years, over 10,000 on refreshment during meetings, or tea and biscuits in 2008; and nearly 350,000 on attending conferences in the last five years; further notes that the Information Commissioner himself is paid salary and pension contributions of over 165,000 a year; further notes that despite this huge largesse from the taxpayer, there is a growing concern among hon. Members and the general public that the Information Commissioner's Office is not fit for purpose; and calls for an Internet Bill of Rights to protect the privacy of ordinary people on the internet.
