Ofsted Results For Cumbria

EDM number 819 in 2012-13, proposed by Timothy Farron on 05/12/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Schools.

That this House welcomes Ofsted's annual report 2011-12 which gives information on how local authorities are faring at improving the quality of education in their schools; congratulates Cumbria which is exceeding regional and national averages for primary education with 76 per cent of primary schools rated as good or outstanding, placing the county joint first with Devon among the 10 authorities most similar to Cumbria in terms of population, rurality and economic makeup and 48th out of 150 authorities in total; notes that there is still room for improvement as just 54 per cent of secondary schools in the county were rated as good or outstanding compared with 66 per cent nationally and 65 per cent in the North West; further notes that Ofsted reports are not the only way of measuring success and that in Cumbria more than 80 per cent of students achieved five A*-C GCSE grades in 2012, an improvement of 18 per cent over the last five years; and calls on Cumbria County Council to continue working hard to improve primary and secondary education in Cumbria to ensure it is one of the best authorities in the UK for education.
