Chief Minister Of Gujarat, Narendra Modi
EDM number 858 in 2012-13, proposed by George Galloway on 17/12/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Asia and International politics and government.
That this House deplores recent initiatives by the British Government, after a 10-year boycott, to court the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, who played a major role in the 2002 pogrom of Muslims which left hundreds dead; notes that the state government continues to refuse to repatriate the remains of the four British tourists murdered then; further notes that Modi was denied a visa to Britain on the grounds that he was `responsible for or directly carried out... particularly severe violations of religious freedom'; demands that the Government reiterates that Modi will not be allowed to visit Britain; and instructs the British High Commissioner in India to sever relations with him.
