Food Banks

EDM number 120 in 2013-14, proposed by George Galloway on 16/05/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Food, Incomes and poverty and Voluntary organisations.

That this House congratulates Osman Gondal and the volunteers who provide food to the needy and homeless in Bradford and West Yorkshire; notes that according to the Trussell Trust the number of people dependent on food banks has doubled to 350,000 in the past year; further notes that 650 food banks are urgently needed; points out that this mirrors 1930s depression Britain; and concludes that the massive growth in food aid is not an example of the Prime Minister's Big Society but tangible proof of the big failure of the Coalition Government's economic strategy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
