National Union Of Students
EDM number 174 in 2016-17, proposed by Angela Crawley on 08/06/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Industrial relations and Students.
That this House condemns the offensive comments made by Conservative Party MSP Murdo Fraser labelling the National Union of Students (NUS) bigots; commends the long and proud history that the NUS has of campaigning and working for equality, including through its dedicated liberalisation and anti-racism campaigns; understands that when the NUS was campaigning against apartheid in South Africa, some Federation of Conservative Students were reportedly wearing Hang Nelson Mandela slogans; notes that when the NUS was campaigning for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, many Conservative Party representatives at Holyrood and Westminster were voting against equality; and recognises that far from being bigots the NUS has and continues to be a champion for equality.
