25th Anniversary Of Westmorland General Hospital

EDM number 110 in 2017-19, proposed by Timothy Farron on 03/07/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Health finance and Health services.

That this House congratulates all the staff at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal on the hospital's 25th anniversary this summer; recognises the huge importance of the hospital to residents in Kendal and the surrounding communities of South Lakeland; thanks the dedicated NHS staff for the outstanding care they have provided to local people over the last 25 years; further congratulates local people for their successful campaigns in recent years to prevent the hospital's closure, to bring cancer treatment and renal and optometry services to the hospital, and to keep the mental health ward open; calls for the minor injuries unit to be upgraded to an Urgent Care Centre so that patients with more serious and urgent problems can be treated closer to home; further calls for the provision of radiotherapy alongside the existing chemotherapy unit; expresses serious concern at the proposed £572 million to be cut from health services in South Cumbria and Lancashire as part of the Government's Sustainability and Transformation plans; and calls for an immediate £4 billion cash boost for national health and care services, which would include more than £40 million for these services in Cumbria in the next year.
