Calderstones Hospital

EDM number 1334 in 2017-19, proposed by Graham Jones on 05/06/2018.
Categorised under the topic of Mental health.

That this House believes that there is an inadequate standard of mental health care in East Lancashire; notes the plans to close Mersey Care Specialist Learning Disability Division in Whalley, East Lancashire previously known as Calderstones Hospital; recognises the vital service that this hospital provides to patients and their families from across Lancashire; expresses concern that its closure will leave a shortage in medium and low secure mental health beds in East Lancashire resulting in the loss of local jobs; further expresses concern that since 2007, £13 million has been spent on the new unit; further notes that the Division is rated as good by the Care Quality Commission; further believes that there has been inadequate consultation; expresses real concern that the new unit will be a considerable distance away in Maghull, Merseyside; and calls on the Government to urge a review on this decision with NHS England and ensure that 700 current employees are found suitable new roles if Calderstones Hospital closes.
