Govan Stones

EDM number 349 in 2017-19, proposed by Chris Stephens on 09/10/2017.
Categorised under the topic of Cultural heritage.

That this House recognises that the Govan Stones have been voted as one of the six Hidden Gems of Scotland as part of Dig It! 2017 Scotland's Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, a celebration co-ordinated by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and Archaeology Scotland that highlights Scotland's six UNESCO World Heritage Sites; notes that the celebration seeks to inspire people through archaeology by discovering past, present and future stories and unearthing hidden gems, such as the Govan Stones; further recognises that this unique collection of early medieval stones in Govan Old Church includes the Govan Sarcophagus, the only one of its kind carved from solid stone from the pre-Norman era and well worth visiting; and congratulates all those involved and thanks all those who took the time to vote for the Stones.
