European Commission And Employment Of Older People

EDM number 1274 in 1992-93, proposed by Joan Lestor on 28/01/1993.

That this House, recognising that this year has been designated European Year of Older People and noting that the European Commission operates selective employment practices which exclude basic grade entrants over the age of 35 years and enforces retirement at 65 years, calls on the Council of Ministers to review the regulations, which were drafted in 1965, in order to extend job opportunities to the age-advantaged.
