Trade Union Rights In A Democracy
EDM number 1179 in 1989-90, proposed by Max Madden on 26/06/1990.
That this House congratulates the National Union of Journalists on organising a Day of Protest on 27th June in support of the democratic right of British citizens to trade union membership and representation; applauds trade unionists at Pergammon Press, the Essex Chronicle and Aberdeen Journals and elsewhere on taking industrial action against the sinister management trend in the British print and broadcasting media to coerce employees into signing individual contracts and relinquishing their right to independent trade union representation; and believes every effort must be made by the British labour Movement to support the right of all workers to belong to an independent trade union and to be represented by that union in negotiations to secure by free collective bargaining and agreement the most favourable terms and conditions of employment.
This motion has been ammended, see 791A2 and 791A3.
This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
