Funding Of Braille Production

EDM number 56 in 1990-91, proposed by John Hannam on 13/11/1990.

That this House deeply regrets that for the first time in its history the Royal National Institute for the Blind's Braille grant has been cut from ú250,000 to ú200,000; notes that the grant is only a contribution towards RNIB'S Braille production which costs it ú3.5 million annually; acknowledges that in some cases Braille production might be funded on a contractual basis and welcomes this practice by some Government departments; nonetheless believes in principle that Braille production requires subsidy to ensure blind and partially sighted people have adequate access to information; and calls on the Government to restore and maintain the real value of the grant.
