Young Pregnant Women And Income Support

That this House believes pregnant 18 to 24 year old women who qualify for income support should receive it at the full adult rate; recognises that pregnant women aged 24 years and under have similar needs as women aged 25 years who currently receive a minimum of ú42.45 per week; and supports the Mother's Day campaign to raise the level of income support from ú33.60 for 18 to 24 year old pregnant women which has been launched by the Royal College of Midwives and supported by the British Agencies for Adoption and Fostering, the Child Poverty Action Group, the Day Care Trust, Gingerbread, the Health Visitors Association, the Law Centre Federation, the Low Pay Unit, Yorkshire and Humberside, the Maternity Alliance, the Methodist Church Women's Network, the National Association of Citizens' Advice Bureaux, the National Childbirth Trust, the Stillbirth and Neo-natal Death Society and UNICEF-UK, and which is in accord with the unanimous recommendation of the Health Select Committee in March 1992.
