World Bank Funding Of The Narmada Dam
EDM number 1753 in 1992-93, proposed by John Denham on 01/04/1993.
That this House welcomes the ending of World Bank funding for the Sardar Sarovar dam and irrigation projects on the Narmada river; recognises that years of criticism by non-governmental organisations have previously been brushed aside by the World Bank; regrets the decision of the United Kingdom Government in October 1992 to continue support for World Bank funding of the Narmada dam; and believes that the United Kingdom Government's role in the World Bank should be subject to greater public debate and Parliamentary scrutiny.
This motion has been signed by a total of 35 MPs.
