50 Years Commemoration Of The Battle Of The Atlantic And Western Approaches

That this House places on record its congratulations to Liverpool and Merseyside for the 50 years commemoration of the Battle of the Atlantic and the Western Approaches; notes that the commemoration recognises the achievements and courage of Her Majesty's servicemen and women and of the Merchant Navy in the longest battle of the war; also salutes the civilian population of Liverpool and Merseyside, which endured the highest level of bombing in the United Kingdom outside London, for their unquenchable spirit and nerve; and resolves never to forget the enormous debt the country owes.
